wip wednesday - bandwagonesque

It seems you can't swing a cat around Flickr or Instagram these days without hitting a Scrappy Trip Around the World. The Scrappy Trip-along is going strong, and dazzled by the beauties people are whipping up, I decided to check out the tutorial and try my hand at it. Dude. Dude. Seriously, dude, this is the easiest, quickest method to making a top in just a couple of hours that I have ever seen. First off, let me say, I love stripping. (Not that kind of stripping, though I don't judge. If that's your thang, work it, girl!) Any project that uses stripping to make something look complex is my kind of project - see Anna Maria Horner's Feather Bed Quilt. After reading so many people gush about the tutorial, my curiosity was totally piqued. So I grabbed a bundle of fat quarters and gave it a whirl.

Now, here's the thing. While I love looking at other people's Trips, I don't personally care for this design. It just doesn't appeal to me on an intrinsic level, I guess. It's like the way I can admire the beauty of a room and all its awesome, plush furnishings in a magazine (or Pinterest) yet I would never pick those same furnishings or design my home in the same fashion. It's gorgeous, but it's not for me. You dig? I probably don't make sense, but it's about a deeper connection with something that's just material. I don't connect with the design. It doesn't resonate with me. I'm psyched to learn how to make it, but I'll definitely be giving this one away.

Since I'm not committed to this, I'm only making as many blocks as the bundle allowed for, which is 12. I cut my strips at 3 inches, making 15 inch blocks. My finished top will be 45 x 60, perfect size for a baby quilt. Hoping to make this my second finish of the year then off to more exciting quilty endeavors.
